For the Havoc expansion in EVE Online, we created the Forward Operating Base structure, serving as a player base for nearby system raids. I designed the VFX for the hangar scene, reflecting the grim, cobbled-together machinery of the Deathless faction. This included gas leaks, low-lying fog, and exposed energy reactors.
Since the structure could be destroyed by rival players, it reacts to gameplay by visually showing damage—explosive particles, gas leaks, and electrical blowouts. Additional geometry was added for blast doors that close off passages, enhancing the dynamic destruction effect.
